Red Oak Police Investigate Property Damage Accident

Red Oak Police Investigate Property Damage Accident

May 27, 2026 Posted by Melanie West Cops

RED OAK, Iowa — The Red Oak Police Department investigated a property damage accident Tuesday morning at North Broadway and Cherry Street.

According to the report, officers were called to the scene on Tuesday, May 26, at approximately 10:40 a.m. Unit one was a 2007 Honda Odyssey driven by Robert Allen Sundquist. Unit two was a 2002 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado driven by Brandon Lee Gugenhan.

Authorities say the Sundquist vehicle was southbound on Broadway and stopped at the light at Cherry Street. The Gugenhan vehicle was southbound on Broadway and failed to stop in time, striking the rear of the Sundquist vehicle with the front of the pickup.

After the crash, Sundquist pulled into the Hy-Vee parking lot. Police say the second vehicle left the scene eastbound on Cherry Street. The vehicle was described as an older, rusted pickup truck with front-end damage.

Sundquist was checked by Red Oak Rescue and released at the scene. Both vehicles were drivable.

Police later located the vehicle involved in the accident. According to the report, Gugenhan admitted to being involved in the crash but did not stop.

Gugenhan was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, failure to provide aid or information, failure to provide proof of financial liability, and fraudulent use of registration.
