As the school year heads into its final stretch, Shenandoah Community School District is preparing for several key events, including kindergarten roundup, spring concerts, and a busy slate of athletic activities.
Director of Communications Aaron Burgdorf says the district’s kindergarten roundup is set for Thursday, April 2, featuring both morning and afternoon sessions. The event is designed to help staff prepare for next school year while giving incoming students a chance to experience the classroom environment.
During the roundup, students are separated from parents and spend time interacting with teachers and staff, while parents attend informational sessions with administrators, the school nurse, and others. Input from preschool staff and daycare providers is also used to help determine classroom placement for the fall.
Families are encouraged to call the elementary office to register, although walk-ins will still be accommodated.
Also coming up, there will be no school on Friday, April 3, in observance of Good Friday. However, the Shenandoah Athletic Booster Club will host its sixth annual fish fry that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at a new location — Elm Street Grill at the Shenandoah Golf Course.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children, with a kid-friendly chicken nugget option available. The meal will be served buffet-style this year, and a 50/50 raffle will also be held. Proceeds support Shenandoah athletics, helping fund equipment, uniforms, and facility improvements. Burgdorf noted the booster club recently contributed $10,000 toward improvements at the community armory, including indoor training space.
Spring sports are now underway, with track, tennis, and golf seasons beginning. Participation numbers are up, with strong turnout across programs. The girls golf team returns most of its state-qualifying roster, while the boys golf team also brings back key contributors after narrowly missing state last year. Boys tennis is ranked in the preseason top 10, adding to the excitement for the spring season.
In addition to athletics, several music events are on the calendar. Elementary and middle school concerts will take place throughout April, culminating in the Middle School Showcase Night on May 19. That event will feature music performances along with displays of student work and art projects from across the district.
With just two months remaining in the school year, Burgdorf says it’s a busy but exciting time for students, staff, and families across Shenandoah.
