Ramsey said the community is heading into summer with plenty of momentum, including continued use of Stanton’s newer ballfields. She noted the fields have been busy with games and practices, and while the improvements have helped meet a need, the activity has also shown there is still strong demand for more practice and field space.
Ramsey shared updates on several local projects, including a new downtown sound system. With support from the Stanton Homecoming Committee, the Montgomery County Foundation, and local donors, the system has been ordered and is expected to be installed in time for an upcoming summer concert.
Other ongoing priorities include research for a possible splash pad, continued work on housing opportunities, and promotion of available lots in the Stanton Technology Park. Ramsey said a home built through the Stanton Community Foundation, Charles E. Lakin Foundation funds, and Revitalize Southwest Iowa remains for sale, and future housing construction is currently on hold until that home is sold.
Ramsey also noted strong progress on the Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center window project, which has raised $83,000 toward a $150,000 goal.
Upcoming Stanton events include the start of the summer concert series, with $2 Pistols performing at Danny Anderson Field. The evening will include Lolo Snow, Books & Bubbles, Gibbs Chophouse, and free drinks or snow cones for students.
The summer concert series continues July 3 with Gas and Grass in downtown Stanton. Additional summer activities include the Amazing Bubble Show on July 7, a mother-daughter book club on July 18, a Stanton Library pool party at the Red Oak Pool on July 30, and a back-to-school concert on August 22 featuring Dan and Cheryl Case and friends at the Swedish Heritage & Cultural Center.
Ramsey said the community also plans to wrap up the season with Fall Fest and Trick or Treat on the Trail on Friday, October 31.
The Stanton Community Update was made possible by FMTC, Sellergren Lindell DeMarce Funeral Home, Fareway, and the Stanton Chamber of Commerce.
