Stanton school construction remains on schedule and within budget
Construction and renovation work at the Stanton Community School District remains on schedule as the district prepares for the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.
Stanton and Fremont-Mills Community School District Superintendent Dave Gute said demolition work began immediately after Memorial Day. Staff members helped clear the affected areas during the final days of the previous school year so contractors could begin work quickly.
The former elementary and high school office areas have been demolished and are being reconstructed as classroom spaces. Part of the former high school office will temporarily serve as the district’s office until the new addition is completed.
Gute said the renovated portions of the building are expected to be available when classes begin August 24. Some minor punch-list work may remain, but the district does not currently expect construction to interfere with the opening of school.
The new addition is expected to be completed near the end of January.
A new heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit for the gymnasium has been delayed because of supply issues. The equipment is now expected to arrive on campus in September. Gute said the gymnasium can continue to be used because it did not previously have air conditioning.
The district is also creating a more secure main entrance. Once the project is completed, visitors arriving after the school day begins will enter through the office before receiving access to the remainder of the building.
Construction will temporarily affect student drop-off and pickup. The district previously used two entrances on the south side of the building but expects to begin the year using only the former high school entrance.
Gute said the district will review traffic and pedestrian logistics as the start of school approaches.
