Westphalia Man Dies in Shelby County Motorcycle Crash

SHELBY COUNTY, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol reports one person died following a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 59 and County Road F32.

According to the Iowa State Patrol minimal crash report, the crash occurred on May 31, 2026, at approximately 2:52 p.m. The report states a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 38-year-old Miranda Von Ahsen of Westphalia, was traveling north on Highway 59 and preparing to turn west onto County Road F32.

A 1975 Norton motorcycle, driven by 63-year-old Francis Rueschenberg of Westphalia, was traveling south on Highway 59. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Rueschenberg died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. He was transported by Harlan EMS to Myrtue Medical Center. The report lists 712 Towing as the towing agency for both vehicles.

The crash was investigated by Iowa State Patrol Trooper N. Henkle, Post 4. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Harlan EMS assisted at the scene
