Registration, cost, and where the money goes
Registration is $25 per vehicle. A car full of people is still $25, paid by the driver. That fee includes a T-shirt and the route pamphlet. Extra shirts are $16. Dave started the fee at $20, moved it to $25, and said he would feel guilty at $30. He does not ask for sponsorship. The cruise is Dave and Deb’s to put on, and he said costs keep getting tougher.
Pre-registration is closed. Sign up the morning of the cruise, and be there by 8 a.m. Registration takes a while. Numbers are down a little this year. Dave blamed a rainy stretch that made people cautious, and gas prices. The forecast he is watching now calls for a beautiful day in the mid-70s. There is a Casey’s just south of the street the college is on, for anybody who wants to fill up before staging.
As in past years, the money from the starting town goes back to that community. This year that is Creston, and the proceeds go to the Creston Area Food Pantry. Last year the cruise left Shenandoah and the proceeds went to the Shenandoah food bank. The year before, an Atlantic crew rented the park across from the courthouse and fed the group after the run.
