Lindsay Franklin, East Mills student support specialist, told KCSI the school year is about a month old and has settled into a good rhythm.
She teaches a weekly social-skills lesson in every preschool-through-fifth-grade classroom using the Second Step curriculum.
The first unit is growth mindset: brains can grow, and students can get better at hard things.
She is also the building’s extra adult when a child needs someone.
Her favorite part of the day is greeting students at the door — smiles, a few “I miss mom” tears, and a quick check-in.
