Today, candidate for governor Rob Sand is rolling out the “Truer Better Agenda,” a series of plans aimed at tackling some of Iowa’s toughest challenges and improving Iowans’ lives. The first plank, “Accountability for All,” is a set of common-sense proposals to restore transparency, integrity, and accountability to Iowa government. The plan focuses on making sure public officials are serving Iowans — not themselves or special interest groups — and works to restore the broken foundation after a decade of one-party rule that has left Iowa with the worst economy in the country, public schools in the middle of the pack, and the number one growth rate for cancer.
Rob’s “Accountability for All” plan includes:
- Banning stock trading so politicians can’t use insider information to benefit and enrich themselves.
- Requiring mandatory prison sentences for taxpayer abusers and thieves.
- Restoring the full powers of the Auditor’s Office.
- Strengthening whistleblower protections.
- Making the Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) program mandatory across government agencies.
- Implementing rules and transparency for the private school voucher program.
- Establishing requirements for elected officials so we can get back to public service, not protecting the careers of insiders, including:
- Enforcing term limits.
- Enforcing age limits.
- Requiring elected officials to take cognitive tests.
- Requiring elected officials to take a civics test.
- Giving independent voters an equal voice in our democracy and end the two-choice system.
